Houston Chemical Fire

According to Harris County authorities, around 4 p.m. on April 7, a massive industrial fire broke out at a chemical plant in Channelview, Texas.

A shelter-in-place warning has been released for Lakeside Park Estates and Lakeview Homes, situated near the K-Solve Chemicals plant in the 1000 block of Lakeside Drive.

On April 8, the Harris County Fire Marshall's Office announced that the fire had been put out but cautioned that it might rekindle. The Fire Marshall's office is investigating the fire; the cause of the blaze is unclear.

K-Solv Chemicals, a provider of chemical distribution and maritime services, as well as renewable fuels, announced an "active situation occurring at the K-Solv Chemicals facility located in Channelview, TX" on Twitter on April 7. All of the workers are safe and sound. Firefighters and emergency crews are on their way to the scene. We're keeping an eye on the air quality and will provide updates as needed."

Several agencies had responded to extinguish the fire, according to the HCFMO, and the air around the plant is being monitored.

According to the HCFMO, "known chemicals on-site include, but are not limited to: hydrochloric acid, acetone, ethanol, ethylene dichloride, and other acids."
