Hochheim Prairie Insurance received a roof claim from us in August of 2017. After a while, the insurance company provided a tiny check to start the repairs. I didn't start the repairs because I lost my job shortly after the check arrived, and I couldn't afford to do so. The check and paperwork were then filed away. I got a call from a lady from Hochheim two years later. She questioned why I hadn't cashed the check. I explained why but added that I was now employed and financially prepared to proceed with the repairs, to which she replied, "OK, then the check is still good, so go ahead and deposit it." I did everything she requested and then received a letter from Hochheim stating that the claim had been closed because I had waited too long. I was furious and contacted them, who directed me to send an email in the hopes of a possible appeal. I did so, and on September 24, 2019, I received another letter stating that they had reviewed it, but "Management: has chosen not to extend the replacement cost coverage to this claim." I called Edmunds Insurance, who then contacted Hochheim, only to receive the same response. Hochheim then returned, claiming that my roof was in bad shape and that he intended to drop me totally. I went to Edmunds and asked [REDACTED NAME] if there was anything I could do to keep my homeowner's insurance. He contacted Hochheim, who replied that they would extend the insurance for another year if I agreed to exclude my roof. I didn't have any other options at the time, so I agreed to keep my policy and coverage until I could find another carrier, etc. The way Hochheim handled this was really deceiving. I would not have cashed the check if the person had warned me it would have triggered this. They've put the entire burden of paying for the roof replacement on my shoulders. I've had to put that money toward repairing my roof as much as possible in order to avoid more damage to my home while I save to replace it entirely. Hochheim Prairie's corporate ethics, underhandedness, and treatment of a ten-year customer upset me greatly. UPDATE: I've now moved to Travelers and completely replaced my roof at my own cost. Not only did they provide me with superior overall coverage, but they were also significantly less expensive.

This firm drags out cases until the Statute of Limitations expires, then offers you nothing. So, if Hochheim is your or the other person's insurance company, IMMEDIATELY SEEK THE ADVICE OF A LAWYER, AS Hochheim will do nothing.

Hochheim should be avoided at all costs... Don't be fooled by their annual member gatherings and supper; they don't care about you. Terrible customer service and obstinate claims adjusters. In May 2020, we saw baseball-sized hail in San Angelo. Despite many dozen penetrations, they judged it was cosmetic damage after making a claim with Hochheim. The adjuster went so far as to poke his pen through the door. When I questioned their definition of "cosmetic damage," the claims agent was aggressive. He then remarked that he had no idea what had occurred to the roof and wondered if it had even hailed. One block away, I own another property with a wrecked roof and vehicle damage totaling more than $5,000. That storm has damaged every roof in our neighborhood. Hochheim is the place to go if you appreciate confrontational customer service and paying for a useless policy.

Hochheim Prairie has been our homeowner's insurance provider for many years. We filed one theft claim throughout that time. We switched to an independent agent for cheaper pricing a few years ago. Hochheim Prairie had three claims on our record at the time, one of which was legitimate, and the other two were false. This makes it more difficult to relocate businesses. I contacted Hochheim Prairie and requested that the two fraudulent claims with $0.00 compensation be removed, but they refused. It appears to be a ruse, so you'll have to stick with them.

Hochheim is not a place I would suggest. I've had them insure my home for the past 20 years. For the first time in March of 2020, I forgot to pay my renewal payment and attempted to renew it. They wouldn't let me, despite the fact that I had been a trouble-free client for decades. When they did respond, they were unusually rude. They demanded absurd things, such as refusing to accept debit cards or ACH payments despite the fact that I have an electronic bank account. I believe they were looking for a reason to fire me and raise my insurance costs. But I have no intention of ever doing business with them again.

In 2016, I was engaged in a very serious automobile accident. A woman ran a red light and collided almost head-on. She collided with me. Then we collided with two more vehicles. I was taken to the local hospital and then life-flighted to University Hospital in Lubbock owing to the severity of my injuries. Over the course of a month, I was in three separate hospitals. I had a cerebral hemorrhage, severe brain injury, fractured skull, and broken neck, among other problems, and it took me almost two years of physical therapy to be able to walk again. I'm incapacitated as a result of the accident. I filed on my own Hochheim Policy under uninsured, underinsured protection shortly after the accident. Due to a lack of work and medical expenditures, I was in dire need of funds. Early in 2017, I filed. I was given every excuse in the book as to why they wouldn't pay until I had to hire an attorney to launch a lawsuit in late 2018. They decided to settle, and in September of 2019, I received my money. To get them to pay, I had to provide more than a third to an attorney. I could have really used the money, but I don't think they would have paid at all if it hadn't been for the attorney. I simply want people to be aware of what they are getting themselves into if they choose to do business with these individuals. I'd been a customer for more than three decades.
