HISTORY

QBE Specialty Insurance Company (QBE Specialty) was founded in August 2002 as a subsidiary of QBE Insurance Corporation in North Dakota. (QBE Insurance), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of QBE Insurance Group, Ltd (QBE Group), QBE Holdings Inc. (Australia). QBE Group retains the financial and operational management of the company. Since March 7, 2003, the company has been eligible to write surplus lines business in New York. QBE Specialty is a domestic surplus lines insurance company licensed in North Dakota on December 31, 2020. It operates on a non-admitted basis in 49 states and the District of Columbia.

REINSURANCE

QBE Specialty is a member of an intercompany pooling agreement with fourteen (14) affiliates, with its parent company, QBE Insurance, keeping 43 percent of the pool lead. QBE Specialty pays QBE Insurance 100% of its premiums in exchange for a 6% share of the combined pool's outcomes, including insurance risks that are not its own. In addition, the corporation participates in group and corporate-wide reinsurance.

As a result, the company's financial strength is significantly reliant on the underwriting performance of its fellow pool members, QBE Group's credit risk, and the investment risk of its investment portfolio, which is managed in common by QBE Group.
